Rene Magritte
It is four o’clock in the morning and she is still not asleep. She can only think about the warm, cosy feeling one experiences when they fall asleep on their bed. Writing a research report for a history class and studying for the three tests she has to take the next day, she fights her desire to go to bed. With bland coffee on her left, a bag of crisps on her right, and a worn out Macbook in front of her, she feels her eyes slowly drooping and her mind wonder off to another world. Her taste buds are going numb and she can no longer focus her eyes on the document in front of her. She looks at her desktop, a painting by Rene Magritte with a quote saying “This is not a pipe.” A complex, yet simple surrealist painting. If only she could escape from reality and live in a dream. It is now half past five, she dreads this fact and starts studying again.
